Why Soda Shop?

Historically, a Soda Shop has been a place of carefree community, where one could sit, drink something bubbly, and escape the world for a while.

The company, like a Soda Shop, is a place for community. It involves not only local collaborators and artists, but also the audience through our open-rehearsal policy and community engagement opportunities.

We aim to be a space where manufactured and artificial lines that divide us in our current world, dissolve. Here, one can join us in movement exploration, a glass of bubbles, or simply exist in a space of reprieve from the outside world.

Our voice

Through choreographic work, education, and by nurturing an environment of openness and growth, The Soda Shop Movement Company seeks to actively engage with the fractured landscape of the United States as it is currently; and address the issues of our time head on with strength, thoughtfulness, grace, and compassion.

As a queer and woman owned American business, we make it our priority to re-evaluate the archaic traditions that inform the current conventions of this art form.

We strive to create a new model of dance-making equipped to deal with, and representative of, the kind of people and society we want to exist.
